2011 HEALTH CARE FOR RESIDENTS OF
PUBLIC HOUSING NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Call for Abstracts

The National Center for Health in Public Housing is accepting abstracts for the 2011 "Health Care for Residents of Public Housing" national conference to be held at The Fairmont hotel, Washington, DC, 2401 M Street, 20037, July 13-15, 2011. Early registration will be held on July 12th from 3:00 to 5:30 pm.

This annual meeting will present subject matter expertise, promising, best and evidenced based practices, resources and tools focusing on the following four (4) workshop tracks. We encourage Public Housing Primary Care (PHPC) programs, health centers providing (or wish to provide) health care to residents of public housing, primary care associations, other health and behavioral health providers, housing authorities, non-profit housing organizations, research organizations, and resident associations/members to submit abstracts or suggestions for workshops.

WORKSHOP TRACKS: All workshops should focus on the following four (4) tracks.

Primary Care and Enabling Services: replicable practices of preventive, intervention, chronic and specialty care delivery models for residents of public housing.

Oral Health Behavioral health
Overweight and obesity Pediatric obesity
Substance abuse Violence and trauma
Asthma Public housing and isolation/depression/anxiety
Hypertension Cardiovascular disease
Cancer Reproductive health
HIV/AIDS Pharmacy
Diabetes Prescription drug abuse
Arthritis Evidence-based practices
Vision Prevention and wellness

Operational and Administrative: issues pertaining to the operations and management of PHPC programs or health providers of services to residents of public housing.

Quality improvement Governing boards/board training and orientation
Expansion planning Patient centered medical home development
Strategic planning Impact of health care reform on PHPC providers
Meaningful Use Adoption Medicaid, SCHIP and Medicare
Health Care Workforce Case management
Staff development/leadership partnering with housing authorities

Fiscal and Program Management:

Collaborative care relationships/delivery Workforce recruitment and retention
Partnering with colleges/universities Financial management

Outreach/Resident Engagement:

Community outreach and enrollment Community health workers
Health literacy Resident driven health promotion
Resident involvement

Conference Registration and Accommodations

The registration fee will be waived for up to two (2) presenters per workshop. Honoraria and compensation for travel are not available.

Abstract Submission Requirements/Guidance: Incomplete abstracts will be returned!

Abstract submissions must include the following information:

1) Workshop title
2) Workshop description (not to exceed 200 words)
3) Three workshop learning objectives
4) Workshop track
5) Each presenter’s name, title, address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address
6) A brief bio for each presenter - please limit to half a page.
7) Incomplete abstracts will be returned!
8) Please identify the primary contact presenter. This person will receive all correspondence and will be responsible for sharing all information with their co-presenters. We recommend no more that three (3) presenters per workshop.
9) We encourage presentations that are interactive and participatory.
